Education and Outreach Committee Co-Chair

Dr. Kristina Hines is a board-certified family physician and diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She earned her medical degree from LMU-DCOM in Harrogate, TN, and completed her residency at Southern Regional AHEC in Fayetteville, NC. Dr. Hines currently practices at UNC Health Family Medicine at Grays Creek, where she provides comprehensive primary care and weight management services.

Passionate about empowering patients through education, prevention, and treatment of obesity and its related conditions, Dr. Hines believes in a compassionate, evidence-based approach to care. As Co-Chair of the NCOS Education and Outreach Committee, she is committed to bridging the gap between obesity care and patient access.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hines enjoys exercising, traveling, and spending time with her husband and son.

Dr. Shaun Hines, DO, DABOM, DABLM received his undergraduate degree from Westchester University and his medical degree from Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in family medicine, obesity medicine, and lifestyle medicine. He has worked for Cape Fear Valley Health System since 2018 in Bladen County. His passion for obesity medicine flourished after 5 years working in rural medicine and realizing that despite regular follow-ups and routine visits, his patients’ health was not significantly changing. He realized he was treating their symptoms rather than the root cause of their issues. What started as a lecture heard at a medical conference turned into a newfound vigor for treating obesity, lifestyle, and currently adding culinary medicine to best serve his patients. Dr. Hines is a huge advocate for his patients with obesity and is thrilled to use his role as a community leader, teacher, and clinician to better serve North Carolinians through his practice and the NCOS!
