Nina Crowley, PhD, RD

Body composition analysis is reshaping the way we assess and manage obesity, offering a more meaningful and patient-centered alternative to weight or BMI alone. In this session, Dr. Nina Crowley will walk you through the why, what, and how of integrating bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) into clinical obesity care. You’ll learn practical tips for choosing the right device, standardizing measurements, interpreting results, setting patient-centered goals, and navigating billing and compliance. Leave with actionable strategies to enhance patient outcomes, meet designation standards, and advance the quality of your obesity care programs.

Learning Objectives:

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define key concepts in body composition analysis and explain their relevance in comprehensive obesity care.
  • Describe the principles and clinical applications of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), including validation against gold-standard methods.
  • Identify important considerations for implementing BIA in clinical practice, including device features, standardization protocols, and interpretation of results.
  • Apply best practices for communicating and counseling patients using body composition data to support goal setting, progress monitoring, and patient engagement.
  • Outline billing and reimbursement strategies for BIA services and understand compliance considerations for maximizing clinical and financial success.
